Council Set To Vote On 14-Home Thurston Road Project
NEWTON — The Newton City Council is set to vote on a proposal to combine three properties on Thurston Road into a nearly 50,000-square-foot lot for a 14-home development, according to a Patch report, while the library moves deeper into its summer slate of children's and adult programs.

The Newton Free Library continues its 2026 Summer Reading Program, running from June 1 through September 4 for kids, tweens, teens, and adults. The library has also shifted to summer hours, closing on Sundays throughout July and August, though its regular weekday and Saturday schedule remains in place.
This week's calendar is heavy with family and youth programming: a "Family Fun" session and a "Crochet for Our Community!" gathering are both set for July 11, followed by a closed day July 12 for the summer Sunday closure. Monday, July 13, brings a busy slate, including the "Winnie-the-Pooh Escape Room," an English Language Learning conversation class, a new Monday storytime series called "My First Storytime," Local History Office Hours for adults, a Spanish-language program tied to the soccer World Cup, and an evening anime screening of "Cosmic Princess Kaguya." The escape room continues July 14 alongside a "Make Way for Storytime" session and the "Murder by the Book Club" meeting on Zoom.
