NEWTON — A Newton teenager's national piano competition victory and a busy slate of library programming led local news Thursday, as town hall generated little new public-record activity.

The Newton Free Library's summer season continues at full tilt this week. On Friday, July 24, the library hosts a Winnie-the-Pooh Escape Room for kids running 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., alongside a Family Outdoor Concert Series stop at 10:30 a.m. as part of "Summer at the Hyde." The day also brings Tech Time Drop-In sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Local History Office Hours from 2 to 4 p.m., and a teen program, "Needle Felt a Carnivorous Plant!," from 3:30 to 5 p.m. English Language Learning programming remains active as well, with a Conversation Practice session and a "Sharing Our Opinions" discussion group both meeting Friday.
The library's English Language Learning offerings continue to draw steady turnout, with the "Let's Talk About Food" class already filled to capacity for Friday's session.
