Select Board · Meeting of October 19, 2026

NEWTON — The Newton City Council voted 18-6 to exempt specific angled parking areas, including Albemarle Road and Beacon Street in Waban, from the city's winter overnight parking ban. Councilor Baker's amendment to narrow the exemption to only Albemarle Road and Chestnut Street failed 11-13 after Councilor Albright argued it made "a minuscule thing" even smaller. Chief Operating Officer Josh Morse separately briefed the council on a roughly $3 billion five-year Capital Improvement Plan, noting Newton has spent about $1 billion since 2010 on schools with a $3 billion total replacement value, and that Countryside and Franklin elementary schools are finishing under their approved $76 million and $72.6 million budgets.

The council also voted unanimously to move the Commission on Disability from Planning to Health and Human Services, following a 7-0 committee vote.
