Traffic Council · Meeting of October 22, 2026
Newton's Traffic Council approved an accessible parking space at 48 Hollis Street on a 3-2 vote and continued the Newton Centre pilot plaza review on a 5-0 hold. Chair David Kozes said the Commission on Disability had given no recommendation on the accessible-space request, the first time that's happened, after petitioner Lisa Rapciotas said walking "especially in the winter" had become too difficult. Captain Devine cast the lone no vote.
The council also voted 5-0 to add a $25 resident-permit override to Arapahoe Road's morning parking ban, after resident Bonnie Carey questioned whether transferable visitor permits could reach non-residents. A 3-2 vote restricted parking on Ellis Road's south side after a single complaint that a waste truck "couldn't access the street." The council took no action on a Harvey Place parking ban after one abutter, Logan Lancelotti Starr, rescinded support in writing.
