Land Use Committee OKs Brookside Project 5-2
Newton's Land Use Committee approved a four-unit Brookside Avenue project 5-2 over neighbor objections.
Other Committee · Meeting of June 16, 2026
Newton's Land Use Committee approved a four-unit Brookside Avenue project 5-2 over neighbor objections. The panel, chaired by Andrea Kelly, voted 5-2 twice, first to close the public hearing and then to approve a special permit for four attached homes at 60 Brookside Avenue, with Councillors Randy Block and Tariq Lucas opposed both times. Approval is conditioned on the petitioner showing Eversource's clearance guidelines are met for a proposed transformer before a second City Council vote.
Abutter Richard Frank said "the applicant did make changes, but there are no changes as it affects us," while Councillor Sean Roach countered that a by-right alternative "would be enormous and far less attractive." The committee separately held, without voting on the merits, a 2 Row Street ADU petition and an 83 Lexington Street petition seeking thirteen items of zoning relief for five units.
