Traffic Council · Meeting of February 26, 2026

Newton Traffic Council denied two resident requests for stop signs on Ruthven Road after written opposition from neighbors. The 3-1-1 vote, with Councilor Lucas, Captain Devine and citizen representative Mitch Fishman favoring denial and Chair David Kozis opposed, killed stop signs planned for Ruthven Road at Park Street and at Waverly Avenue. An earlier motion to approve both signs failed 2-3.

Elsewhere, the council unanimously approved new parking restrictions on Holly Road near Beacon Street and stop signs at Paulson Road, at the Winona Street/Regina Road intersection with Ware Road, and at Harrison Street near the Eliot Green Line station. Members also voted 4-0 to keep an accessible parking space outside the Newton Free Library after the state Architectural Access Board ordered its noncompliant ramp removed, and voted 4-0 to cut the Waltham Street lot from 14 to 13 spaces.
