NEWTON — The Newton Land Use Committee approved special permits for a four-story commercial building and three home additions, voting 8-0 on each. Attorney Lawrence Lee presented a revised 74 Needham Street design that dropped a curb cut and added a $5,000 contribution toward nearby transportation and pedestrian upgrades. Councilor Deborah Lucas pushed for added conditions on employee caps and T-pass commitments before signing off.

Councilors approved facade-ratio relief exceeding the 60 percent cap at 40 Burdine Road (64.5 percent) and 29 Pierpont Road (69.9 percent), and a parking waiver for an ADU at 45 Ware Road. Councilor Sean Roach said of the Ware Road case, "it's really a shame that on a project of this size the petitioner has to suffer" the special permit process. A fifth petition, at 2 Row Street, was withdrawn without prejudice.
